Supplemental
Educational Services
Under No Child Left Behind, Elgin Middle School is offering free
tutoring in reading, math or science to students who receive free or
reduced lunch meals. SES is a requirement of any Title I campus in Stage
2 or above of mandated improvement and it provides extra academic
assistance for eligible children to increase achievement for the TAKS
test. The tutoring must be held outside of the regular school day by
state approved providers and must be of high quality, research-based,
and specifically designed to increase student academic achievement. SES
is NOT homework assistance. The tutoring may be held in various
locations, such as the middle school, on-line, or a location determined
by the provider and parent.
As the parent you may choose:
-
WHO --
Select a tutoring provider from the attached list of state approved
providers who have agreed to serve Elgin Middle School.
-
WHAT --
Reading, Math or Science
-
WHERE --
Between you and the provider
-
WHEN --
Before school, after school, weekends, intercession, etc.
The process to enroll your child in SES is relatively simple:
All costs are paid by the school district. If the number of students
exceeds the amount of money the campus has available, the district must
give priority to the lowest-achieving students who meet the eligibility
criteria.
If your child was enrolled the first week of school, you will receive a
parent packet in the mail. Additional SES parent packets are available
in the campus office and central office.
