Elgin ISD Looks to the Future
In 2006, Elgin
voters passed a $43.9 million bond package to build a new middle school
and upgrade other campuses. The new middle school, with 146,00 square
feet of space, has two gymnasiums, tennis courts, track facilities and
is located on 27 acres on FM 1100. This school will house 1,100 students
at capacity, with room to add at some future time, based upon needs of
the district. This new campus will open in the fall of 2008.
Also passed in
this bond package was the addition of 16 classrooms at Elgin High
School: 10 regular classrooms, 4 science labs and 2 computer labs and
expansion of the school administrative office area, cafeteria, library
and the addition of another gymnasium.
Also included
were upgrades and/or replacements to roofs and air conditioning systems
for Booker T. Washington Elementary School, Elgin Elementary School and
the vacated old middle school, that will be repurposed and used as an
elementary opening in the summer 2009.
Also included
was the addition of a district warehouse facility and expansion of the
transportation facility and paving projects.
Also included
was money to purchase another school site at a place to be determined.
Also included
was $2 million for new technology within the district.
