Elgin ISD Looks to the Future

In 2006, Elgin voters passed a $43.9 million bond package to build a new middle school and upgrade other campuses. The new middle school, with 146,00 square feet of space, has two gymnasiums, tennis courts, track facilities and is located on 27 acres on FM 1100. This school will house 1,100 students at capacity, with room to add at some future time, based upon needs of the district. This new campus will open in the fall of 2008.

Also passed in this bond package was the addition of 16 classrooms at Elgin High School: 10 regular classrooms, 4 science labs and 2 computer labs and expansion of the school administrative office area, cafeteria, library and the addition of another gymnasium.

Also included were upgrades and/or replacements to roofs and air conditioning systems for Booker T. Washington Elementary School, Elgin Elementary School and the vacated old middle school, that will be repurposed and used as an elementary opening in the summer 2009.

Also included was the addition of a district warehouse facility and expansion of the transportation facility and paving projects.

Also included was money to purchase another school site at a place to be determined.

Also included was $2 million for new technology within the district.
