Degrees and Certifications:
My name is Diane Slack and I am entering my third year as a school counselor. This is my eighth year at Elgin Elementary. Prior to becoming a school counselor I was an art teacher and a fourth grade teacher at Elgin Elementary. This is my seventeenth year in education. I have also taught 1st grade gifted and talented, 2nd and 3rd grade reading intervention, and sixth grade language arts. I have a Master's Education in School Counseling from Lamar University. I also have a BS in Elementary Education from Pittsburg State University and an Associates Degree in Bible and Elementary Education from Ozark Christian College.
My hometown is Baxter Springs, Kansas. I enjoy boating, camping, and painting. My husband and I have three kids: a 7th grade son, a 3rd grade daughter, and a 1st grade son.
I work with our assistant principal, Ms. Martinec, as our PBIS coordinator and as the Behavior RtI Coordinator for PK, Kinder, 2nd, and 4th grades.
As a school counselor I spend most of my time working directly with students through guidance lessons, individual counseling, and small group counseling. I also observe students in the classroom and provide feedback to help support them in their behavior. Consultation meetings with parents, teachers, and administrators are additional ways that I provide student support services.
