• Dear Parents, Guardians, and Grandparents,                                                                 August 22, 2013

My name is Cindy Timms and I am teaching Theatre Arts including Technical Theatre and Professional Speech Communication.  Your child is in my class.  In case we have not yet met, I would like you to know a little about who I am.

I have been teaching since 1993.  I have been  in the Elgin School District for the past 13 years.  I began in Elgin as a Speech teacher and have been teaching Theatre Arts as well for the last ten years.  I have also taught English, Journalism, Photography, Debate and Writing classes.

I went to several colleges and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Theatre & Communications with specializations  in Acting & Directing from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas.  I went to Texas Tech to do my graduate work and to get my teaching certificate.  I have taught in Lubbock, Littlefield, Manor, and Elgin.  I live in Elgin with my family.  My daughter goes to Texas State and is a part of their BFA acting program. My son is starting high school this year.  We have a dog and two cats.

Please feel free to share any concerns you may have about your child with me.  I welcome any information that will help make your child successful.  I like communicating through e-mail best.  That way neither of are in a rush.  If you do not have access to e-mail, please feel free to call.  281-3438 ext. 1130.  If you do not speak English, we can set up a conference with a bilingual aide.

If your child is in my Communications class, my goal is to prepare the students in formal communication situations like job interviewing and college applications.  If your child is in one of my Theatre classes, I hope that they enjoy performing, reading plays, and learning about the theatre.  Technical Theatre involves artwork, design, costuming, make-up, lighting and sound.  We also study directors and set designers.  I am proud to say that I have several students who have graduated to become very successful in Entertainment and Communications.

If you are trying to get rid of odd objects or strange clothing, or FURNITURE! , please feel free to donate to the Theatre department.  We need strange items for plays.  If you love sewing or carpentry or designing things, please feel free to donate your talent and time!  So, the next time you are wondering, “who would want this?”  Think of us, we will be happy to take it off of your hands.  If you do not like Theatre, but still want to donate time, we always need help making copies!

I have not printed out the syllabus for each student this year, but all of my information should be available on my web page.  If you have any questions or concerns about the class, please do not hesitate to contact me.  We always need baby wipes, paper towels, spray cleaners, air deodorizer, sanitizers and copy paper.  Thank you for your time and attention to this letter.
