Elgin ISD Board of Trustees Launches Superintendent Search

Elgin ISD Superintendent Dr. Jana Rueter has announced her plans to retire from Elgin ISD effective December 31, 2026. Dr. Rueter’s last day as Superintendent will be June 30, 2026. Thereafter, she will assume the role of Superintendent Emeritus until her retirement date of December 31, 2026.

Dr. Rueter has served Elgin ISD with dedication and vision, leading the district through a period of significant growth while remaining focused on student success, staff support, and strong community partnerships. Her leadership has helped shape opportunities for Wildcats across the district and strengthened Elgin ISD’s commitment to excellence.

With her retirement announcement, the Elgin ISD Board of Trustees has officially begun the search for the district’s next superintendent.

Selecting the next superintendent is among the Board's most important responsibilities. Trustees are committed to identifying a leader who will build upon the district’s strengths, support student achievement, and continue fostering meaningful relationships with students, staff, families, and the broader Elgin community.

The Board is committed to a thorough and transparent search process that reflects the values and priorities of the Elgin ISD community. Opportunities for stakeholder input and community feedback will be shared throughout the process as Trustees work to identify highly qualified candidates to lead the district into the future.

To assist with the search, the Elgin ISD Board of Trustees has partnered with the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Executive Search Services. TASB Executive Search Services has been building successful leadership teams in Texas school districts for more than 30 years and is dedicated to supporting districts in the search for exceptional superintendents who will ensure continued success and excellence for students, staff, and the community.

Additional information regarding the superintendent search, including timelines and opportunities for community engagement, will be shared in the coming weeks.
