The Elgin ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously to name Dr. Christopher Bailey Elgin ISD’s Superintendent of Schools at its special called board meeting on September 1 at Elgin High School.

“We are excited to welcome Dr. Christopher Bailey to Elgin ISD,” Board of Trustees President Byron Mitchell said. “We believe he brings a wealth of experience and is a great fit for our community. We’re excited to watch him lead our district and expand opportunities and unlimited possibilities for all of our students.”

Bailey has hit the ground running during his first days on the job. Visiting campuses and getting to know community members have all been the center of his focus. 

“I am not a behind-the-desk superintendent,” Bailey said. “If you want to find me, look in a classroom, a hallway, a bus lane, a gym, a band hall, or the stands. I want to be where students are performing and competing because that is where you learn what a district is actually like.” 

Bailey previously served as superintendent of Goldthwaite Consolidated Independent School District and has been a Texas public school educator for more than 20 years. Prior to his tenure in Goldthwaite, he served in Abilene ISD as executive director for Student Supports and as a campus principal. He also served as principal and director of bands in Katy ISD.

Bailey has worked alongside teams in Goldthwaite CISD to increase funding through the Teacher Incentive Allotment, as well as other strategic initiatives to expand student learning opportunities in curricular programs, extracurricular programs and career and technical education (CTE) pathways. He also has led strategic planning teams in all three districts where he has served.

He holds a doctorate in educational leadership from Baylor University and completed his master’s degree at Baylor and his bachelor’s degree at Stephen F. Austin State University.

“I am humbled and excited for the opportunity to work alongside the Elgin community in preparing each student in our care for the future they deserve and desire," Dr. Bailey said. "I am committed to leading the team of dedicated educators in Elgin ISD through the challenges and celebrations that lie ahead. Just like my own three children, I will work tirelessly for the well-being of each of our Wildcat children."
