School Security Officers
On March 22, 2021, the Elgin ISD Board of Trustees authorized the employment of armed security personnel to help ensure Elgin ISD maintains a safe and secure environment for students and staff.
Safety and Security Officers hired by EISD are veteran Texas Peace Officers and the district requires officers to receive the same training as School Resource Officers or School District Police in the State of Texas. Safety and Security Officers receive additional specialized training on crisis intervention techniques, mental health awareness, diversity, and de-escalation techniques.
The Elgin ISD Safety and Security team operate under a Governmental Letter of Authority issued by the Texas Dept. of Public Safety’s Regulatory Services Division (license #X15813701). Safety and Security Officers do have powers of arrest for felonies and breaches of the peace under Chapter 14 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure.
Elgin ISD continues to maintain a strong relationship and works cooperatively with the Elgin Police Department to ensure the safety of all stakeholders.
