Pre-K Family Engagement Plan
The Elgin ISD Early Education Program will create strong partnerships with families through collaborative and communicative efforts. Both the District and the parent community play a critical role in the success of all students. Elgin ISD PreK program will provide the following supports to encourage the school/family partnership to address the specific needs of our early learners:
- Facilitate family-to-family support:
Elgin ISD will create a safe and respectful environment where families can have opportunities to learn and grow together.
Strategies include:
- Volunteer opportunities
- School-Wide Family Events such as Meet the Teacher and Back to School Night
- Campus PTA Meetings and Events
- Establish a network of community resources:
Elgin ISD will build partnerships with community agencies and will establish a network of community resources.
Strategies include:
- Disseminate community resources through written material and social media platforms
- Partnership with local library to ensure families have access to library cards and learning material
- Link families with support systems and various resources depending on family needs
- Alphabet Fashion Show, Career Day and Reading Under the Stars events
- Increase family participation in decision-making:
Elgin ISD will increase family participation in decision-making opportunities.
Strategies include:
- District Committees
- Campus Committees
- PTA Committees
- Equip families with tools to enhance and extend learning:
Elgin ISD will equip families with resources and tools to enhance and extend their learning at home.
Strategies include:
- At-home resources will be provided to families by teachers to support student learning
- Parent/teacher conferences will be held to educate and inform parents of student progress and support opportunities to foster students’ growth
- Teachers will provide parents with CLI Family activities in English and Spanish
- ESL Classes for adults
- Develop staff skills in evidence-based practices that support families in meeting their children’s learning benchmarks:
Elgin ISD will provide essential professional development to teachers and staff in evidence-based practices that support families in meeting their child’s learning benchmarks.
Strategies include:
- Ongoing professional development for all early childhood staff in the areas of:
- CLI Engage & Circle Progress Monitoring
- Capturing Kids Heart
- Literacy and Language Acquisition
- PreK Guidelines
- Hands on Play Centers
- Attend the Early Childhood Conference
- Evaluate family engagement efforts and using evaluations for continuous improvement:
Elgin ISD will evaluate family engagement efforts for continuous improvement.
Strategies include:
- The Pre-K Program will utilize the Texas Education Agency High Quality PreKindergarten Program Self-Assessment to evaluate programs and practices annually.
