Introducing the SMART tag Parent App

The new and improved SMART tag Parent App is ready for you! The Parent App includes new features that let you choose a time setting for bus arrival notifications. You will also get notified each time your student loads and unloads the bus!

SMART tag Parent App is replacing the Parent Portal (web access).

How to get started with SMART tag Parent App

Before registering, ensure you have the following information from one of your children:

  • 6-digit student ID number (available from the Campus Registrar)
  • Date of birth
  • Campus name

The primary parent must complete their app registration and confirm their student before any co-parent can register for them. Co-parents who wish to register for a student must submit a request to the primary parent within the app. In cases where there’s no response from the primary parent, the school district can review and approve.

What is SMART tag?

SMART tag is a system designed to increase the safety and security of students who use school bus transportation. Each of our buses is outfitted with a tablet equipped with a Radio Frequency Identification reader, mobile connectivity, and Global Positional System (GPS).

How does my child use SMART tag?

Each campus will assign students with a SMART tag ID card. As students enter and exit their bus, they tap these ID cards onto a card reader. Each time a student taps their ID card on the bus, the bus driver's on-board tablet helps validate:

  • Records when and where students get on/off their bus
  • Provides near real-time information for school administrators and parents
  • Your child got on the correct bus route
  • Your child got off at the correct stop

Privacy and Data

Our student ID cards are safe and secure. We use PVC cards with a passive RFID chip containing only a unique identification (UID) number. The UID in the chip is read by our card reader, and our system uses it to reference student information. The latest cloud technology, encryption, and security protocols ensure your child's information is secure.

  • No student information is stored on the ID card
  • EISD approved personnel and registered parents/guardians have sold access to your child's information.

SMART Locate is changing: Users will no longer be able to view the bus for the entire route. The live map location of the bus will only be available from the time you receive the SMART Alert arrival notification (default 20 minutes) up to the time the bus leaves your home stop.
