Chromebook Initiative

Elgin ISD uses instructional technology to engage, prepare, and inspire all students for life-long success by teaching the skills, knowledge, and behaviors students will need as responsible digital citizens in the global community. Students learn collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking in a variety of ways throughout the school day. Excellence in education requires that technology is seamlessly integrated throughout the education program. In an effort to increase access to those 21st century skills, Elgin ISD has made it a goal to offer students 24/7 accessibility to their learning. The individual use of technology is a way to empower students to maximize their full potential and to prepare them for college and the workplace.

Elgin ISD is pleased to announce an exciting new initiative at Elgin Middle School and Elgin High School. Beginning with the 2018-19 school year, every student in grades 7-12 will receive a Chromebook as an instructional resource and tool for teaching and learning. The goal of this initiative is to provide students with access to digital content and production tools in and outside of school, giving them the ability to learn anytime, anywhere. It will also be used as a digital textbook, replacing most of the textbooks with more affordable and portable instructional materials.

Because technology plays such an important role in the lives of our students, we expect that students will use these laptops to become responsible digital citizens, collaborate as a community of learners, seamlessly use digital tools within their everyday learning, and individualize their instruction. We recognize that learning continues beyond the school day, so it is our intent that these laptops will travel back and forth between school and home with each student.

As we begin this initiative, we know that you may have questions and we certainly want to address whatever concerns you may have. Therefore, please feel free to schedule a parent meeting to answer questions and provide additional information regarding this exciting opportunity.

In the meantime, the documents listed below outline the lending agreement and responsibility expectations for the student, parent, and the district. Elgin ISD will not be charging a user fee for the 2024-2025 school year.

On behalf of Elgin ISD, we are ready and eager to provide a challenging and engaging year for your student as we use the Chromebook as a resource for teaching and learning. It is a privilege for us to work with your student(s) and provide what we expect will be a life changing experience for them.
